I’ve had a number of great arthropod collecting opportunities this year, including netting bee flies (Bombyliidae) with former labmate Allan Cabrero (@Ento_Allan) …
Bombyliids are pretty conspicuous to me due to their propensity for holding their often black-patterned wings at a 45 degree angle from the body.
You’ve got to be fast to net them, though!
Thanks for inviting me out for the day, Allan!
… and collecting harvestmen on the road to my new position at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Sweeping for harvestmen at a campsite in OK
James and I had a great experience working with Justin Roach of Tishmingo Wildlife Refuge to find
More often than not, we were able to collect harvestmen in groups on manmade surfaces. These Leiobunum sp. are hanging around a former mud dauber wasp nest.
I look forward to future work on my skillz (such as they are)!
